When we were young
Ever since we were born, we were told by parents, school and religion that being a good person is a good thing, we were rewarded when ever we were good, we were told stories and fairy tales of how being good was a beautiful attribute to have. We were told to say the truth and not to lie, were told to be honest and not be deceitful, told to be generous and not to be stingy, offer help to whosoever needed help. We were told by our parents, schools, our churches/mosques and our fairytales (especially the ones from Disney) that if we do all this, nothing is going to go wrong, we were made to believe if you express the goodness of your heart your goodness will be rewarded with goodness and your life was going to be perfect.
But then we grew up into the harsh reality that nothing is perfect. The world is full of people that manipulate others, people with greed, people who take advantage of other. And us who were groomed to be good, honest, truthful and always be helpful to whoever needed help made us an easy prey for the world to use and dump. We were not prepared for this, we were not taught how to deal with this kind of people or how to react to them, everything we were ever taught was a lie. We are now determined to treat them how they treat us, we orientated ourselves that nobody is as noble and honest as us.
Let us take a pause. Take note, since the beginning i have been using the word 'us' not 'i'. That means the idea that you are the only noble and honest person is a lie, and since someone took advantage of you and hurt you badly you do the same thing to another person thinking that since it was done to you and heaven Didn't fall down it is okay to do it to another person, then you adopt the phrase "if you cant beat them join them" because if you dont, you will be cheated and left out of the good things of life. Now the person you cheated and took advantage of goes with your same mentality and does the same thing to another person and the cycle goes on and on, we forget that everyone was innocent at one point in time and we all go about destroying that innocence. Now what we do is destroying the idea of good and bad and we are just left will the idea of survival of the fittest. we thought civilization would have eradicated this idea but we were wrong instead it upgraded it. The few of us that refuse to let go of our childhood ideas because life was so much easier when we were young try to balance good and bad, we stay in the middle so as to be able to survive in this world maybe that's why christ said Except one becomes like a child he cant enter the kindom of God.
