Chapter
4 ( Doyin’s perspective)
My life had been silent
since the cinema, no exchanges of messages from either Kofo or me happened. Jade
wasn’t even online and I had desperate cravings for her. I picked up my phone gave
her a call and to my upmost pleasure she picked up.
“hey” I said
“hey”
“you haven’t been
online?”
“yeah wasn’t really
feeling the internet so I took a break”
“including me?”
“no you are special”
“how special?”
“you know what? I will
come online in the night, I got to do something with my dad” she chuckled has
she hung up the phone.
I dropped the phone in my
pocket with a smile on my face. Why I was smiling I had no idea, she saying I
was special just gave me this tingling feeling.
I was so hyped and
decided to take a walk, with my ear piece and music blearing I began to run and
when I was out of breath, I looked for a place to sit down while nodding my
head heavily and without wasting much time, I was on the road again, my heart
beating rapidly, the sound of my breathing was growing louder and when I
finally got to my hostel I collapsed on my bed, sweating profusely, and off to
dream land I went.
Jade stood there with a
smile on her face just staring at me, the smile was inviting so I took my steps
carefully towards her, slowly but eventually. And when I did she pulled me
close, her eyes still on me and she moved in for the kill with the intention of
making our lips lock and before the grand finale of whatever was happening, I
woke up.
A little disappointed of
me slacking in my dream, I checked my phone and saw an “hey” from Jade
“hello how are you?”
“I am fine; I’m in Lagos,
we could see tomorrow”
“wow cool”
“am I going to see you?”
“sure”
“I have to be in Ogun
state during the weekend, I will arrange everything for my settling in school”
“okay cool, can’t wait to
see you”
“what if we don’t end up
seeing?” she replied with a smirk emoji
“you want me to die abi?”
“lol, which one is die
now?”
“ah you will know oo, you
just don’t come?”
“what will happen if I
don’t come?”
“I will haunt you in your
sleep I swear”
“lol, you are something
else, what am I going to do with you?” she replied with a laughing crying emoji
“well you just have to
come noni”
“lol, I love you” she
replied, which for a minute made my heart stop, I mean she just said she loved
me, it didn’t make any sense, we haven’t met yet, she is not even my girlfriend
and our chats haven’t gotten that deep, although the chemistry and vibe was
there, still it was too early to be using the “L” word. I stared at my phone without
knowing what to say, I knew I had to say something, she would be waiting for
me, so I decided to play along, I mean what’s the worst that can happen. We
obviously have a connection, there is no harm in taking it to the next level.
“I love you too” I
replied
“okay I have to go now,
sweet dreams” she said as she went offline
“goodnight”
This conversation made me
feel good about myself, she was about to be my second girlfriend, I couldn’t
wait for her to come around. I went to sleep on my face and for the first time
all was right with the world. Poverty, religious wars, Aids, boko haram, death
all these didn’t matter because she said she loved me. It was like discovering
the cure for cancer, my world would never remain the same, I feel like I was
cured from a disease I never knew I had.
The day went by so fast nothing could happen
that could top what was going to happen the following day. I took enough rest
and when the next day came I couldn’t stop being excited from the early morning
till noon felt like forever, but 2pm finally came around and I got a call
“I am in your school,
come and pick me up” Jade said from the other side of the phone
“okay where are you?”
“I’m in front of a bank
around the gate side”
“okay I’m on my way now”
“I did not really dress,
so I look ugly” she said while she chuckled
“you are funny. I’m on my
way”
I rushed to the car pack
and took a cab and I was on my way to see her, my heart was racing, I was
overly excited that I was going to finally meet her, wondering if she looks
exactly like her pictures. I got to the bank and there she was, with a smile on
her face and she was perfect. she was shorter than I envisioned her to be, and
her ass wasn’t has fat as I expected. But all that didn’t matter because I was
just happy to see her
“this is my cousin” she
pointed at the dark petite girl beside her, who just smiled and didn’t say
anything
“Barakat you cannur say
hello ni” Jade said
“hello” Barakat greeted
me with her face towards the ground
“hello” I replied her
with a smile
“oya barakat be moving in
the front” Jade said as Barakat gave her a look and was working in front of us
“what’s the deal with
your cousin?” I asked
“she brought me here, I
don’t know anywhere in Lagos”
I took her on a tour
around the school, first off we went to a canteen where we got something to
eat, she opted not to get anything, but ordered for her cousin, who she made
fun of how bush she was. Her rudeness to her cousin didn’t matter to me, I
finally met her and that’s all I cared about.
And after a long tiring
stroll around the school, she decided to go home, and seeing her go I felt this
kind of peace in my mind, it was a perfect day, the best day I have had in a
long while.
I sat in my room unable
to calm myself from all the excitement and I decided to text her
“hello jade I really had
fun today”
“you welcome, I had fun
too” she replied immediately
“hope it wasn’t awkward,
hope I was everything you imagined” I nervously texted, my heart rate was
beginning to increase
“it wasn’t awkward, our
conversation was smooth there wasn’t any awkward silence trust me, I was even
surprised of how smoothly it went”
“jade this is really
weird for me but I have to tell you the way I feel, I know there is distance
between us and that’s going to be a real obstacle but I believe we can make it
work and Ogun state is not that far away, I really like you and I want us to be
together like for real you know? What do you say?”
“are you asking me out?”
“yes?”
She replies with the
smirk emoji and says “I feel the same way, but distance is my fear but we can
make it work right”
“yes”
“okay?”
“lol okay”
“so you are my
girlfriend?”
“yes and you are my
boyfriend lol”
“wow okay” I felt
Goosebumps cover my whole body
“I am so happy, I am
smiling like a fool, my cousin is looking at me as if I am crazy but she
doesn’t understand”
“lol today is just
perfect”
“yes it is”
